How Seller Help Works
01
Tell Us About the Cards
Share the collection type, approximate years and estimated quantity. The scanner is optional. Human review currently accepts your written information and any scan summary you choose to attach; photo uploads for human review are not available.
02
A Person Reviews the Request
Every submitted Seller Inquiry receives manual Hobby Trail Guide review. When the collection is unusual, mixed, unclear, or potentially significant, an experienced collector or category specialist may provide an additional perspective.
03
Consider Appropriate Options
Hobby Trail Guide may identify shops to ask, suggest obtaining another opinion, recommend closer review of possible standout items, or explain what information is still needed. You decide whom to contact and whether to sell.
No specific response time, buyer, offer, appointment, appraisal, house call, or sale is promised.

Straight talk before you sell
A small photo sample cannot establish the value of cards you have not shown. The scanner cannot assess unseen cards or total the value of your entire collection.
Condition matters a lot. A tiny corner ding can change a card's value dramatically.
Shops pay below retail because they have to resell. Getting more than one offer on a larger collection is smart.
Older cards (pre-1980), star rookies, autographs, and professionally graded cards in your photos may deserve closer review. A photo alone cannot confirm authenticity, grade or value.

A useful first look
Collection Scanner
The scanner can help identify areas of your collection that may deserve closer review and help you decide what information to gather next.
The scanner reviews only the photos and details you provide. An overview photo and a small selection of individual-card photos represent a sample—not an evaluation of every card in your collection. It cannot assess unseen cards or determine the total collection value from that sample.
The scanner provides an AI-assisted first look. Human review begins only when you separately submit a Seller Inquiry.
Transparent Listings. Human Review. The Seller Remains in Control.
The Philly & Jersey Hobby Trail is an independent directory published by Hobby Trail Guide. Hobby Trail Guide does not buy cards, does not represent a particular listed shop, and never takes a percentage of what a seller is paid.
01
How the Trail Makes Money
Basic shop listings are free. Factual corrections are free.
A shop may pay for a clearly labeled Featured placement.
When Hobby Trail Guide offers qualified Seller Inquiry opportunities, a shop may pay a flat fee to receive an inquiry after Hobby Trail Guide has determined that the shop may be an appropriate fit.
Payment does not guarantee:
An organic recommendation
Exclusive access
First access
A seller’s business
A purchase
An appointment
A sale
02
How Shops Are Considered
Possible shop options are based on the available collection information and verified directory records.
Factors may include:
Collection type
Sport or TCG category
Approximate era
Vintage versus modern
Raw versus professionally graded
Sealed products
Memorabilia
Collection size
Seller location
Seller’s goal
Verified shop specialties
Owner-confirmed buying categories
Appointment requirements
Known service limitations
Whether another opinion or professional service is advisable
A shop cannot pay to become the only organic option, to be identified as the best buyer, or to see every seller inquiry before other appropriate shops.
03
How Sellers Remain Protected
Hobby Trail Guide recommends that sellers:
Seek more than one perspective when a collection appears significant
Keep a written inventory or photo record before leaving cards with anyone
Understand how and when payment will be made
Avoid leaving cards without written documentation and agreed terms
Confirm the identity of temporary buying-event organizers
Verify any appraisal, grading, authentication, or consignment terms
Avoid feeling pressured to sell immediately
Before attending a temporary buying event or responding to an unsolicited buyer, confirm the organizer’s identity, understand how items will be documented, ask how payment works, and avoid leaving cards without written records and agreed terms.
04
How Complaints Are Handled
Hobby Trail Guide may review credible complaints and may correct, restrict, suspend, or remove a listing when the available information warrants action.
A complaint by itself does not automatically establish wrongdoing.
Hobby Trail Guide may seek additional information from the shop, submitter, or available public sources before changing a listing.
05
What the Scanner and Human Review Are Not
The scanner provides photo-based guidance, not an appraisal or offer. AI may misidentify cards, especially parallels, reprints, variations, and autographs, and photographs cannot establish professional condition grades.
Human review adds perspective but does not authenticate cards, assign professional grades, or create a formal appraisal.
Dealer offers may be lower than public retail or asking prices because a buyer assumes resale time, market risk, operating costs, and uncertainty.
The collection owner remains free to contact shops independently, seek another opinion, use a professional service, keep the collection, or sell nothing.
Not automatically. The scanner provides an AI-assisted first look based on the photos and details submitted for analysis. Human review begins only after you separately submit a Seller Inquiry.
Will the Collector Review Team see my scanner photos?
No. Scanner photos are not stored by Hobby Trail Guide or automatically attached to an inquiry. Human-review photo uploads are not currently available in these forms. Reviewers receive your submitted written information and any scan summary you explicitly choose to attach.
Does every inquiry receive specialist review?
Every submitted Seller Inquiry receives manual Hobby Trail Guide review. An experienced collector or category specialist may be consulted when the collection, card type, or uncertainty makes another perspective useful.
Is the human review an appraisal?
No. It is initial guidance and triage. It does not authenticate cards, assign professional grades, or provide a formal appraisal.
How are shops selected?
Possible shops are considered based on collection fit, location, verified specialties, owner-confirmed buying information when available, and the visitor’s goals. Premium-listing status does not control organic shop suggestions.
Are my details sent to every shop?
No. Seller requests are reviewed by Hobby Trail Guide and are not automatically sent to every directory listing. Relevant information may later be shared with suitable shops for the purpose of helping with the request.
Is there a promised response time?
No specific response time is promised. Submission does not guarantee a buyer, offer, appointment, appraisal, house call, or sale.
